Professional Teachers’ Council NSW is the representative for NSW on the Australian Professional Teachers' Association (APTA) Council.
APTA is a federation of state and territory joint councils of teacher professional associations representing over 120,000 teachers, from government and non-government schools within Australia. It provides a national voice for Australian teachers from all sectors and all levels of education.
The objectives of the APTA are to:
|Represent member associations collectively in initiating and responding to communication with governments, employers, tertiary institutions and other organisations where appropriate;|
|Allow for an expression of a common voice on educational and professional matters in the interests of member associations;|
|Enhance the public profile of member associations and highlight the contribution they make to education|
|Support and promote the activities that assist and develop members of member associations in the practice of their profession;|
|Facilitate networking, communication and sharing of resources between member associations; and|
|Liaise with other bodies on matters of mutual interest to its member associations.|

The Professional Teachers’ Council NSW (PTC NSW) invites associations and groups to become affiliate members of PTC NSW.
The association/group seeking affiliation status is required to submit an Application for Affiliate Status to the PTC NSW Board of Directors (please refer to the attached document).
All applications should reflect compliance with the eligibility criteria and acceptance of the obligations of affiliation as set out in the guidelines for applicants. Applications may be submitted by 30 May (for July consideration) or 30 November (for January consideration).
