The Professional Teachers’ Council NSW congratulates Mayeta Clark recipient of the Professional Teachers’ Council NSW 2022 Media Award for her award winning article Teachers speak out about ‘atrocious’ staff shortages crippling many NSW public schools. ABC RN – Background Briefing. Posted Saturday 4 June 2022
PTC NSW’s Media Award is presented to individuals working in the media industry for their positive portrayal of the work of teachers and schools in NSW during the period 19 October 2021 to 13 October 2022. This award focuses on the value of teaching and learning.
The PTC NSW Selection Panel were impressed by the detailed and thorough case study approach taken, and how it highlights the current issues faced by teachers and the work done by teachers and other school staff in a very realistic series of events.
The selection panel commented;
This is a detailed analysis of the serious staffing dilemma facing schools. It engages real life examples from inside schools as well as accessing DET bureaucrats and the Ministers insights. Its real but fairly balanced in the issues it addresses but also makes a stand on the need for quality solutions to avoid serious negative impact on the lives of both students and teachers. Effective explanation of need for change in looking at near future predictions. It has video links which is a strong multi-media option. Uses quotes and references very effectively in context of a news article. Anyone reading it would be clear of the situation facing schools now and in the near future.
