When is World Teachers’ Day 2019?

Most countries around the world celebrate World Teachers’ Day on October 5, however, because this date usually falls during the Australian school holidays, we celebrate World Teachers’ Day on the last Friday of October instead.

This year, World Teachers’ Day falls on Friday  25 October in Australia.

In 2019, World Teachers’ Day will celebrate teachers with the UNESCO theme, “Young Teachers: The future of the Profession.” The day provides the occasion to celebrate the teaching profession worldwide, to take stock of achievements, and to address some of the issues central for attracting and keeping the brightest minds and young talents in the profession.

How to celebrate World Teachers’ Day

  • Schools could consider organising events that celebrate young teachers.
  • Positive feedback from students can be especially meaningful for teachers – schools could encourage students to sign a card for their teacher, or even come up with an appropriate award to present to them.
  • Another option could be to hold an assembly and draw attention to the great work the teachers at the school are doing. This could be in the form of  a slideshow highlighting teachers’ achievements throughout the year.
