The Re-imagining physical education to increase engagement for all workshop series

This series of workshops will support teachers and faculties to review current practices related to physical education and explore innovative new ways of presenting learning that reinvigorates their programs and increases levels of engagement for students.

Workshop 1 – Translating the syllabus requirements for physical education into innovative programs

This full day workshop will focus on:

  • unpacking and interpreting the movement-based outcomes and exploring what student achievement can look like in each Stage.
  • translating movement content into innovative and engaging lessons that challenge all students
  • exploring the propositions and how they can inform our PE programs
  • collaborative review of current scope and sequences
  • content mapping and audit process of units of work to identify any gaps in coverage
  • modelling a process for critiquing current practices.

This first workshop will be followed up by a second workshop in 2022.

Completing the Translating the syllabus requirements for physical education into innovative programs before 31 July 2021 under NESA’s interim arrangements will contribute 5 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Elective PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW curriculum addressing the following standard descriptors from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

  • 1.5.2 – Develop teaching activities that incorporate differentiated strategies to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities.
  • 2.1.2 – Apply knowledge of the content and teaching strategies of the teaching area to develop engaging teaching activities.
  • 3.1.2 – Set explicit, challenging and achievable learning goals for all students.
  • 3.3.2 – Select and use relevant teaching strategies to develop knowledge, skills, problem-solving, and critical and creative thinking.
