Session 1: Setting the Scene 

A brief look at some of the 20th Century seminal interpretations of ‘Romeo and Juliet’: George Cukor’s 1936 Film; West Side Story; Zefferelli’s Film; Macmillan’s Ballet; and Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet then into Mats Ek’s Juliet and Romeo.

Session 2: A different approach to first impressions

This session will introduce teachers to the characters and structure of Mats Ek’s Juliet and Romeo, with the focus being on Skills of Analysis: Components. Teachers will become familiar with the key aspects of the Work and provided with activities to take into the classroom to start exploring the work with their students.

Sessions 3: Going deeper – Motifs and Meaning 

This session will delve into a way to approach identifying and analysing the motifs in this Work, and finding links between characters and motifs.
