Traditionally, Itinerant Teachers of the Deaf predominately used resources with a literacy focus to teach language skills. With the advent of the National Numeracy Progression in schools, the Carramar Hearing Team reviewed their current assessments and found that numeracy concepts underpinned many of the language skills being tested. Consequently, the team undertook a range of professional activities to develop their own knowledge and skills in teaching numeracy and number sense for children who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing.

This professional learning has led to a broader approach to teaching language by incorporating numeracy activities in the students’ individualised programs.

This webinar provides an overview of the evidence and process of using numeracy as an effective language medium.
