The content and pedagogical approaches in this course have been created to assist teachers working in an online environment to implement effective teaching and learning practices.

This 2 hour workshop, ‘Differentiation with Challenging Tasks in the K – 6 Mathematics Classroom’, will pull out the research for teachers to explore the key elements of differentiation and how they can be applied to teaching, learning and assessment strategies in an online environment within K-6 mathematics.

Building on pedagogical knowledge, this course aims to provide teachers with high challenge tasks and some processes to embed challenging tasks into their online classroom repertoire.

Throughout the workshop, teachers will:

  • broaden their repertoire of teaching strategies allowing them to differentiate the curriculum for students in the classroom and online settings.
  • develop engaging activities that deepen student understanding of key concepts in mathematics.
  • recognise and design assessment for online learning activities that reveal areas of individual strengths and weaknesses.
  • include differentiation in lesson sequences that address individual learning needs and engage students of varying abilities, with added focused on how teachers can differentiate in the online environment.

You will have the opportunity to engage in activities and explore strategies that you will be able to take back to your classroom to use with your students. Teachers will review differentiation in the classroom to engage students in challenging tasks and allowing them to productively struggle.

Feedback on this course from previous participants:

“The sharing of quality resources, addressing the why and how of differentiation were very informative!”

“With a focus on enabling and extending prompts with examples of tasks, I can use this tomorrow in my classroom!”
