Description

VADEA Collaborate Live – Beginning Teachers: Starting Out In The Visual Arts Classroom is an online event that will focus on the sharing of valuable expertise for Visual Arts teachers new to the profession.

The event has been designed to support early Visual Arts and Design educators who are just starting out or are in the early stages of their careers. VADEA recognises that it can be challenging in the early days to know how to find your teaching identity, contribute meaningfully to your department, manage heavy workloads and new processes, as well as develop smart and healthy work habits.

During the event, you will hear from a range of experienced Visual Arts and Design educators who will share tips and tricks for the beginning Visual Arts and Design teacher, as well as resources for teaching. The event will also provide opportunities for you to connect with experienced teachers as well as others new to the profession.

VADEA Collaborate Live – Beginning Teachers: Starting Out In The Visual Arts Classroom will be presented in three parts.

  1. The first 45 minutes will be dedicated to a series of 5-minute presentations from Visual Arts and Design teachers from a variety of educational contexts. Presentations will explore a range of themes and topics which may include: what to expect in the early days of teaching, the importance of mentors, useful resources and lesson plans, program development, self-care and wellbeing, how to contribute to your faculty, engaging with artists, and how to hold events/exhibitions in your school.
  2. We will then move into breakout sessions where each presenter will facilitate a sharing session for approximately 30-minutes. Presenters and participants will share a resource they have brought along with the rest of the group, for example, a scope and sequence, program, assessment task, art writing task, artmaking strategy, a worksheet, or an activity that has been successful.
  3. The evening will close with a presentation from VADEA Co-President Nicole DeLosa and Early Career and Accreditation Project Officer Kieth Yap about the professional support VADEA offers to its members.

Registration is free for VADEA members, or $30.00 for non members and will include VADEA membership to 31 December 2022.

Note: Once registered, all participants will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link, as well as a link to a shared Google Drive folder where resources can be uploaded and shared prior to the event. Please allow 1-2 days to receive this information.
