Ability grouping is a contentious intervention in any classroom, and many myths exist around how to use it effectually for gifted students, or even whether to use it all. Much of the misunderstanding stems from generalisations that have been generously misapplied to gifted students.

In our session together, we will look at current meta-analysis research on different types of ability grouping for gifted students, and some important factors that influence the effectiveness of ability grouping.

We will also cover possible problem areas with ability grouping high potential students and discuss some strategies to mitigate their impact.
