Teachers play a key role in supporting children as writers across the years and across the curriculum. Part of this role is to support learners to develop strategies to make decisions about the ways they will create a text. Effective decision-making is essential in writing to ensure fit for purpose, audience, context and medium for teachers and students.

The presentation will:

  • Use writing samples from linguistically and culturally diverse primary students to illustrate how different types of decision-making can lead to quite different outcomes in writing.
  • Support teachers to identify evidence in writing samples in connection with the achievement of K-6 English Outcomes.
  • Share strategies for teachers to take into account to develop the skills of writers from a range of backgrounds and with a range of experiences
