We can only motivate young people to read if we believe in the power of reading for pleasure.

In this session presenter Paul Macdonald will discuss strategies for building reading cultures within schools, outlining ways to promote texts in the current reading landscape.

Literature Discussion Circles
In Part 2 of the workshop participants will form Literature Discussion Circles. Each participant is asked to bring one or two quality Picture Books which simply beg to be read and discussed by students in their stage of learning. Through sharing and “grand conversations” we will  collaboratively respond to the question – What makes a picture book noteworthy or memorable? The Literature Circles will each be led by an educator who is currently a committee member of the ALEA Sydney West Local Council.

Participants are also asked to bring a device along in order to collaboratively share and capture the learning
