PTC NSW Online Learning Workshop, Wednesday 29 August 2018

PTC NSW believes that the on-line platform of professional learning is a rapidly growing area with potential to hold much benefit for our member associations as well as PTCplus. This is shown to great extent via the NESA teacher survey of 2016/17 where a blended approach to professional learning was seen to be a popular method of PL delivery.

In alignment with the popular demand for Blended Learning within our member associations, PTC NSW has partnered with Open Learning, an on-line platform for the creation and delivery of courses.  Together we will be providing a secure on-line platform for member associations to access, which will include hosting of content; management of courses; accounting and payment of accrued participant payments; course development training sessions via PTC NSW.  As part of the relationship with PTC NSW with Open Learning members will also have access to developments of the platform.

The flexibility of the Open Learning platform will allow associations to post courses as either stand-alone courses, as part of a series or as part of face-to face workshop follow-up sessions.

Some facts about Open Learning:

  • They are an Australian company, based in Sydney;
  • They are young and dynamic team of specialists;
  • They provides a high level of technical support; and
  • Several universities currently utilise Open Learning  for their on-line courses;

Open Learning are very supportive of working with PTC NSW and member associations, by offering a competitive offer.

We are pleased to announce that our first session will be held on Wednesday 29 August, at the PTC NSW Training room at 4.30pm -7.00pm. The session will be presented by Jim Sturgiss, PTC NSW Director and an experienced designer of online courses.

Participants are invited to bring content to develop into an on-line course. This will be a hands on session designed to produce 1 on-line course ready for uploading to the Open Learning platform. The skills developed, presented and applied during the session will assist participants develop future courses to be uploaded.

Providing courses on-line is an exciting, professional and valuable asset for all member associations to access. In addition to adding an income stream, associations will be able to promote the on-line environment as a member benefit and one to attract and retain members.
