ADVISERS EACH YEAR
[n.b. All Advisers have to date had to organise
and supervise these Tours at their own expense. Funding to maintain the program
is welcome and will be credited.]
OFFICIAL STATUS
Tours in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 were
officially approved Department of Education & Training (DET NSW) educational
excursions. Gorokan High School (Principal: Alan Arkins) has been the Australian
Host School. DET NSW provided some relief time for parts of these Tours occuring
during school time. In addition, it was one of the major supporting organisations
for the Sydney / Central Coast based 1st International Student Representative
Conference (ISRC 2000), organised by PASTA in December 2000.
Delegations
from overseas, in particular those from the United States, Canada, The Mohawk
Nation and Thailand, were major contributors to that successful Conference. NASC,
CASAA, 'Connect', the P & C Association of NSW, the University of Sydney and
the University of Newcastle, Central Coast Campus, joined the NSW DET in support.

interested in the differences between our schools and theirs . . . We have traded

"Over 2000 American, Australian, Puerto Rican and Canadian student
leaders and advisers were in attendance throughout the week. . . . debated controversial
issues such as gun violence, discrimination, the abuse of drugs and alcohol .
. . took part in community service at local schools to improve literacy skills
. . .The importance that student leaders are given within the community was impressive.
'StuCo' (Student Council) is a commonplace and well-recognised term. The resulting
support of the community was seen from the many local sponsors of the conference.
. . We recommend this trip to anyone with a commitment to leadership, SRC, and
a willingness to tackle challenges."

Lisa Bollard (North Sydney Girls), Katherine McCormack (Uladulla), Rebecca Engelen

"Sensational visit -- contributions -- observations -- and willingness
to be Australians...We will not exact more from them.. ."
- Dr. Earl Reum,
Founder, National Student Leadership Camps and NAWD - USA Denver, Colorado
"There
are numerous letters in the paper regarding what a fantastic experience it was.
I haven't talked to one person who was disappointed. Everyone talks of what a
great bunch of kids they were. If the press could get this spread around it would
be wonderful and refreshing.
- Host Family to several NASC Conference
Delegates
"At SYLC camp I bonded much closer with people. Both experiences
have had a tremendous impact on me...One had and continues to have boosted my
spirit, morale and general wellbeing; the other gave me logistics and hard copy
resources for understanding the essence of true leadership. Both were unique.
Neither can be said to be better than the other."

Performing Arts HS)

"Our son Joshua (Year 7) has been passing on school reports. Students
have been keen to follow the tour's daily activities, especially those that went
to ISRC in Sydney and those hoping to go to USA 2002.
- Alicia Perry's
Family (Prospect HS - Launceston, Tasmania)
"I have been very impressed
with the whole event. The kids have learnt so much, seen so much, the organisation
has been excellent, the contact with those of us still here has been first class.
Publicity for this kind of event would be very beneficial in promoting the youth
of today in a positive light rather than all of the negative stuff we hear. .
