Healthy eating is important for children of all ages, particularly when growth and development is so rapid throughout childhood. Grains and legumes are an important part of a healthy diet. Grain-based foods are those made from grains like wheat, oats, rye, barley, rice, corn and millets. Breads, crispbreads, crackers, ready-to-eat breakfast cereals, muesli, porridge, rice, pasta, noodles and couscous are all examples of grain-based foods. Such foods contribute many 'goodies' to our diet, including vitamins, minerals, energy-giving carbohydrates, dietary fibre and protein, to name just a few. They are tasty, versatile and easy to make into delicious meals and snacks. |
