The Hon. Adrian Piccoli presents Mr Matthew Bentley, Past President of PTC NSW with the Exceptional Service Award for 2011.

Matthew Bentley has been recognised for an Exceptional Service Award in acknowledgement of the quality of his strong educational leadership at a state and national level.

In his time as President Matthew led the Professional Teachers’ Council NSW with a clear and determined vision. He has served as a director, Vice President and most recently as President of the Professional Teachers’ Council NSW.

Matthew has led and convened a series of forums which engaged teachers and member associations in a range of perspectives spanning the traditional, cutting-edge and controversial. Such forums have included topics as the Australian Curriculum, Information Communication Technology in education and the governance of professional teaching associations.

Matthew has served as a director of the Australian Professional Teachers’ Association (APTA) where he helped lead the national body through a period of change. At this level, he helped promote teaching and supported national consultations regarding the National Professional Standards for Teachers.

Matthew has been an active member of the English Teachers’ Association NSW where he has published support documents, assisted with curriculum consultations, led professional development activities, mentored beginning teachers and taken on advocacy roles on behalf of the English Teachers’ Association.
